AÅšOKA - Buddhist Caves set design

For my senior thesis, I designed a set based off of 2000 year old Buddhist caves in western India. My research helped me in keeping the architectural and decorative elements accurate to the time period. The cave serves as a monastery for buddhist monks, also called a vihara, wherein monks live austerely and discuss Buddhist teachings. Architectural elements like lotus pillars, murals and apt set decoration add up to the ambience of the cave.

KOPESHWAR TEMPLE

The renderings depict a reconstruction of the 10th century Kopeshwar Temple at Khidrapur, India. I have reconstructed the complete temple along with interior to reminisce its glory in the yesteryears. The current temple lays in ruins yet it is an architectural marvel in itself. Dedicated to Hindu deity Shiva, the reconstructed rendering depicts the congregation hall attached to the sanctum sanctorum.

OFFICE REDESIGN

For one of my studio classes, I was tasked to redesign my classroom into an office space. I ended up creating an archtitectural firm office set in the 1960s. The space is divided into the reception area and the drafting space. While the reception area is complete with period interior elements, the drafting space houses hand drafting tables with bright overhead lighting.

SHAHU - DISNEY IMAGINEERING

For the Disney Imagineering competition, I designed the experience of Shahu. The experience is dedicated to the eventful life and work of HH Chhatrapati Shahu, the Maharaja of Kolhapur. The design is complete with a palatial building that serves as an event venue, colonnades for a weekly bazaar and musical fountains.

Rush Hour Series - Chinatown Warehouse

Redesigning the Chinatown Warehouse from the Rush Hour TV series was an assignment for my Advanced Concepts class. My Professor and Production Designer Dawn Snyder guided us through the redesign process and showed her work for the same episode. My design includes the makeshift bar area, lounge and dining. Repeating motifs of snakes and dragons reinforce the idea of power struggle in the Los Angeles gangs.

Rush Hour Series - Koreatown Apartment

Redesigning a set of the Koreatown apartment from the Rush Hour TV series was also an assignment for my Advanced Concepts class. My Professor and Production Designer Dawn Snyder guided us through the redesign process and showed her work for the same episode. The apartment design derives inspiration from various architectural elements of the Asian mainland. Moreover, the affluent setting is indicative to the power of the LA gang leader, the Dragon.
